Only just back from France, and going to work the next day I felt that weeks without fishing deserved a chance a Bristol Channel again! So with my old pal Neil we headed off for a big tide on about a 22:30 high tide.
When we got there I was surprised to see just how fast the tide was coming in! It was dark too which makes it a bit special at Severn Beach, as you look at the lights of the bridge and Avonmouth docks.
So we set up on the steps as usual and awaited the incoming tide…
So we setup on the steps and watched the tide roll in, bloomin amazing the speed it occurs! We were worried we would run out of steps at this point, as you can see below the water was lapping at our feet nearly!
In the above picture you can see the Patent Pending modification Neil made to his fishing box carry strap, yes pipe lagging and insulating tape 🙂
The water was getting ever closer at this point, not helped by a wind that made the waves crash on the steps, we had an exit strategy, but continued to fish regardless!!
We carried on fishing on the outbound tide, Neil had some bites but failed to strike what was nibbling on his bait.
Best thing about Severn Beach is there is no crabs, well not that we have experienced so there is no bait loss from pesky crabs chomping on your bait whilst it flaps about on the bottom.
Anyway needless to say, we caught bugger all!!
