So after nearly a month of owning my iPhone 6S Plus I thought it was time to give you all my verdict on the device.
Coming from a month using Windows Phone 8.x on the Microsoft Lumia 640 I couldn’t wait for my iPhone to arrive on launch day. I received my phone around 3.30pm by courier hooked it upto iTunes and within minutes I was restoring my previous iPhone 6 Plus backup onto it. You cant argue with that, no something that Microsoft or Android can say they offer at the moment.
Fingerprint reader – wow.. when Apple said it was quicker than the existing one they were not joking! It is insanely quick! Infact it is too quick, no longer can you press the home button to turn on the screen to see the notifications with a finger that is registered as it will unlock to the main screen in the blink of an eye! Often I find myself pressing it to open the screen to view the notifications and ending up unlocking the device!
The way around this is to use a finger that is not registered, or to use the power button on the side! Both of these are hard to remember to do in the heat of the moment!
12mp Camera – the new camera is in my opinion definitely better than the iPhone 6. It shows more detail, reacts faster, focuses faster and has a ridiculous Live Photo option. Now let me say that the live photo option is just ridiculously pointless, its nothing that HTC/Nokia/Samsung have done already (and better), and to cap it all the way it works is just plain stupid! It takes 1.5 seconds of video after you have pressed the shutter button! Which results in normal use of some video of you putting your phone down and in your pocket/shirt etc! You need to remember to hold the phone in place until about 2 seconds after the shot, stupid in my opinion just stupid!
3D Touch – this takes some getting used to. I found myself continually putting the phone into jitter mode, and struggled to access the 3D touch options on the app icons. However with a little bit of practice you can work out how you do it. Each app gives you many different options, but I rarely remember to use it so to me its not that useful!
Front Retina Flash – this is just a con! Every device can do this surely, it just uses the screen to flash white when taking a picture, so why is it just reserved for the 6S models? Only Apple can sell this as a feature, and people seem to be gullable enough to fall for it! Luckily I rarely take selfies as I am not a teenager or narcissistic person!
Overall – I chose a Space Grey model this time so that I had something to make it seem like I’d just spent £789 on a new phone, as I’d had a white iPhone 6 Plus before. If it wasn’t a different colour would I know it was the new 6S Plus? In short, YES! It is very quick indeed, everything is lightning fast, I could tell straight away!
